RISKS OF THE NEW FLUORESCENT LIGHT BLUBS

Push For Energy-Savings Ignores Mercury Disposal Hazards--
Reported By Joseph Farah --WorldNetDaily.com

WASHINGTON - Brandy Bridges heard the claims of government officials, environmentalists and retailers like Wal-Mart all pushing the idea of replacing incandescent light bulbs with energy-saving and money-saving compact fluorescent lamps. So, last month, the Prospect, Maine, resident went out and bought two dozen CFLs and began installing them in her home.

One broke. A month later, her daughter's bedroom remains sealed off with plastic like the site of a hazardous materials accident, while Bridges works on a way to pay off a $2,000 estimate by a company specializing in environmentally sound cleanups of the mercury inside the bulb.

I recently blogged about compact fluorescent lamps at my site on global warming.  I found that they are not the great deal that everyone says they are.  They poison the ground with mercury if not recycled correctly and when you add up all of the costs of production and recycling, they actually use more energy than incandescent bulbs.  I don't want to go into a great deal of detail here but you can read my post at http://globalwarming-factorfiction.com/2007/07/18/compact-fluorescent-lamps/
